Service Description

Spark an interest in engineering and STEM for your 3rd - 5th grader! Join us for a five-week series of STEAM workshops to introduce your future engineer to mechanical, aeronautical and electrical engineering! These fun, hands-on projects will get your student excited about STEAM! The five projects will include: Rubber Band Powered Car - Students will build a functioning car powered by a propeller and rubber bands! Learning objectives: potential energy; kinetic energy; introduction to mechanical engineering and automotive design. Doodle Bot - Students will build a simple bot out of a cup, markers and a motor that can doodle a design. Learning objectives: intro to electric circuits, motors & switches, how batteries work and art. Hydraulic Hand- Students will build a functioning hand featuring a hydraulic system. Learning objectives: Intro to bio-medical engineering; hydraulic systems; force & motion; and construction. Marble Roller Coaster - Students will design and build a simple roller coaster out of pools noodles and marbles. Learning objectives: engineer design process; potential and kinetic energy; centrifugal forces; velocity. "Get Lit" Postcard - Students design and create a card that features art, paper circuit and functioning light. We are a Blue Ridge Academy contractor.
