Service Description
Spark an interest in engineering and STEM for your K-2nd grader! Join us for a weekly series of STEAM workshops to introduce your future engineer to mechanical, structural, aeronautical engineering and design! These fun, hands-on projects will get your kid excited about STEAM! The four projects will include: Balloon Powered Car- Students will design and build a car powered by the air from a balloon! Learning objectives: potential and kinetic energy, automotive design and intro to mechanical engineering. Shelter My Buddy- Students will build a structure to protect their stuffed animal friend. Learning objectives: engineer design process; problem-solving; intro to structural engineering and construction. STEAM Glider - Students will design and build a simple glider. Learning objectives: four forces of flight; gravity, thrust, lift and resistance. As well as introduce students to aeronautical engineering and art. Billy Goat Gruff Raft - Students must design and build a raft of straws and pipe cleaners able to float and hold weight for at least 10 seconds. Learning objectives: engineering design, load distribution; building structures and water transportation. Piper Parachute - Students slow the fall of their pipe cleaner friend by designing and building a parachute from different materials. We are a Blue Ridge Academy contractor.
